garHello friends, family and colleagues – Happy 2007!

Before getting too far into this new year, I wanted to touch base and fill you in on some fabulous projects that I had the good fortune to work on last year. My goal in doing so is to inspire you to take a few minutes and learn more about the artists below.

I've recently updated my website, which now features music and some info on all of the projects below. So please take a moment, while you're surfing the web, to listen to the jukebox on the site. If you like what you hear, please consider ordering a few CDs and helping spread the word to your friends. You'll be getting your hands on some great original music and supporting talented independent artists at the same time.

kkrThanks in advance for your time and interest. I hope our paths cross often in this new year and that 2007 proves to be an incredible one for us all. Onward . . .

Blessings, Gar

PS - Pictured at left is our most signficant development of 2006. Kathryn Kessler ('Kessie') was born in late March, and she's our lovely new muse.

amphis-baena

Amphis-Baena is a Brooklyn-based instrumental trio (sax, drums and keys) whose raw energy, virtuosic improvisation and dreamlike sonic landscapes invite the listener to their blissful world of creation. Their original music features lyrical melodies (a la Byörk), infectious grooves and brilliantly improvised interludes. I produced and mixed their debut CD fleeting. It's truly unique. Listen to where this music can take you.
craig carothers

newsong contestIn 2006 we celebrated the fifth annual Mountain Stage NewSong Festival & Contest (of which I'm the director). The talent featured in our international contest finals was mind-boggling. Of last year's five co-winners, Nashville-based (by way of Portland) artist Craig Carothers (pictured) was chosen to perform on an internationally broadcast Mountain Stage Show. He'll be performing live on Sunday, January 28. The show will be recorded and later broadcast on Public Radio International. Check out the Mountain Stage website for details on when and where to tune in.

carrie cheron

Last winter I worked with the talented Boston-based singer-songwriter Carrie Cheron to produce her CD One More Autumn. With likenesses to Joni Mitchell and Joan Baez, Carrie's original songs cover an array of themes, all connected by her chrystalline voice and rock solid guitar playing. Guest artists on the project include Edie Carey on vocals, Rushad Eggleston of Crooked Still on cello, Jake Armeding on fiddle and mandolin, and Eric Platz on percussion.

eric darby

Eric Darby is a nationally-recognized writer and performance poet who has been published in four nationally-distributed spoken word anthologies. I had the pleasure last winter of producing the audio portion of his unique full length CD/book project The Secret Dream-lives of Engineers. It was released by Wordsmith Press in February 2006.

diana jones

newsong recordingsReleased in late March as the debut CD on the NewSong Recordings label, Diana Jones's My Remembrance of You was recently awarded the #1 Country Album of the Year by the Chicago Tribune. To date, it has been on nearly 20 'Best of 2006' lists across the US, Canada, the UK and Europe.

2007 looks to be a BIG year for Diana. She'll be on the road across the US and abroad, so make sure you check her out live when she comes to a town near you.

mira stanley

Mira Stanley is a talented singer-songwriter whom I got to know through the Mountain Stage NewSong Festival. The daughter of Mountain Stage music director Ron Sowell (one of my NewSong compadres), Mira grew up backstage listening to some of the best artists in the world. And in her original music, all those hours absorbing that great music comes back out, organized in her own unique style.

This summer, I worked with Mira here in New York to produce a couple of demos for 2006 American Idol runner-up Katharine McPhee. Keep your fingers crossed that the songs get cut, but in the meantime hear what we put together on the riparius jukebox player.
